Holding period task force of the Bitcoin Bundesverband starts work
On May 7, 2026 at 4:30 pm, the Bitcoin Bundesverband’s holding period task force will meet for the second time.
The background to this is the current political discussion surrounding possible changes to the taxation of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
It is clear to us:
❌ Hands off the holding period for Bitcoin & Co. ❌
The existing tax regime has provided planning security for investors, companies and innovators for years. Abolishing or restricting the holding period would have far-reaching consequences for Germany as a business location, for investments and for the practical use of Bitcoin.
The aim of the task force is therefore to work together with other associations, companies, CASPs, investors and other stakeholders to maintain the status quo.
This is not just about the interests of individual Bitcoin investors. A tightening of taxation would:
- Putting the brakes on innovation and entrepreneurship in the crypto sector
- create considerable bureaucratic burdens
- make the use of Bitcoin as a means of payment more difficult
- and set Germany back further in international competition
At the same time, there are considerable doubts as to whether the publicly discussed additional revenue from stricter crypto taxation is even realistic. Political decisions should be based on reliable data – not on speculative assumptions about potential additional tax revenue.
Particularly in times of high national debt, it would be problematic to base budget planning on expected revenues whose actual realization is questionable.
That is why we are committed to an objective, fact-based and innovation-friendly discussion at an early stage.
Cooperation instead of individual actions
Talks are already underway with other market participants, companies, media players and interest groups in order to launch a broad joint initiative.
Because it is also clear:
A strong and effective voice can only be created by joining forces.
