Horvath – Fine dining restaurant in Berlin, awarded 2 Michelin stars & 5 toques in Gault Millau. “Independent of structures and norms, Sebastian Frank breaks with the supposedly traditional rules of top cuisine and serves the most individual menu in Germany. In his powerful dishes, he is primarily concerned with creating authentic flavors that reflect his culinary identity.” Gault Millau, 2023 Our restaurant is characterized by the warm wood of the historic wall panels, in combination with straightforward modern design and the colorful mural by artist Jim Avignon. The heart of the restaurant, which was completely renovated in 2021, is the floor-to-ceiling glass kitchen with chef’s table. In summer, the cozy guest garden invites you to dine under the vines. The restaurant has been located in the lively creative quarter on Paul-Lincke-Ufer for almost 100 years. The address was made famous by the Austrian philosopher and writer Oswald Wiener, who founded the “Exil” with Michel Würthle in 1973, a hotspot for creative artists at the time. In the kitchen is his wife, the artist Ingrid Wiener. Big names such as David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Helmut Newton and Jack Nicholson were frequent guests at Exil, which at the time was a legendary mix of Austrian restaurant and Berlin pub. The simple elegance of the unconventional Michelin-starred restaurant creates a friendly, casual yet elegant atmosphere. Today, the new Horváth also reflects our self-image: we value our roots, draw on tradition – and we live creativity and innovation. Sebastian Frank’s innovative concept of “emancipated vegetable cuisine” harnesses the power and flavor of vegetables and fruits and seamlessly integrates them with meat-based flavors and spices to achieve a harmonious marriage of taste, texture and consistency. A fully vegetarian menu is also an integral part of our vision of emancipated vegetable cuisine. And the philosophy is proving to be a success: with all its awards, Horváth is currently one of the 12 best and most exciting addresses in Germany. Sebastian Frank grew up in Lower Austria, right on the border with Burgenland. After his training and formative stations such as at Heinz Reitbauer’s famous Steirereck in Vienna, he moved to Berlin in 2010 to develop his own style at Hor váth. Just one year later, he was awarded his first Michelin star. Sebastian Frank and his wife Jeannine took over the restaurant in 2014, which has been continuously awarded two Michelin stars since 2015. Since then, the trained hotel manager has been running the business. Together with their young, dedicated team, the Franks create an unconventional, casual fine dining experience at Hor váth that creatively celebrates the seasons – with fresh culinary ideas and warm hospitality – that’s Hor váth! In addition to their business, both have been co-initiators of the non-profit association “Die Gemeinschaft” since 2016 and are committed to the responsible handling of food and its producers. Horváth is also the first Michelin-starred restaurant in Germany to accept Bitcoin as a means of payment.
