Bitcoin ESG Committee of the Bitcoin Bundesverband
The ESG Committee was founded in January 2025 and is dedicated to the ESG assessment of Bitcoin in the context of the environment, social responsibility and governance (ESG). The committee develops its own evaluation standards, recommendations for action and practical documents before external actors set standards.
Objectives of the ESG Committee
- Proactive development of transparent ESG criteria for Bitcoin use cases
- Creation of practical working papers with data-based analysis
- Integration of normative and regulatory requirements (e.g. EU-CSRD, Section 13k EnWG)
- Support for ESG reporting by Bitcoin-related companies
- Communication of good practice examples (mining heat, treasury, lightning, certificates)
- Networking with professional associations and institutions
Activities & results to date
Milestones (January – July 2025)
- Preparation and peer review of an approximately 80-page ESG working paper
- Peer review event on March 18, 2025 at UTXO Business Innovation Meetup Cologne
- First edition of the ESG paper published on June 17, 2025
- Revised German version and English version published on July 30, 2025
- Continuous work every two weeks via Google Meet / Telegram
- Presentations at the Bitcoin Forum Ingolstadt and plans to participate in the Swiss Bitcoin Conference

📌 Superordinate role in the association
The ESG Committee plays a key role in strategically positioning Bitcoin as a positive ESG solution in corporate contexts. It combines technological innovation with regulatory classification, data analysis and political communication, thereby strengthening the position of the Bitcoin Bundesverband as a thought leader in corporate sustainability.
